The main issues facing employers in Wellington were identified at a Business Breakfast held at Sherrys Restaurant on 12 January. Employers, including representatives of the two largest manufacturing companies in the town, gave their views to the Market Towns Employment Project group.

The key issues highlighted were the need to:

• diversify the economy
• develop new skills in the workforce
• improve the town centre and provide suitable sites and premises to attract new businesses

The group commissioned consultants to develop an outline inward investment strategy to address these issues.

The Strategy specified the strategic_objectives and an action_plan .

From the action plan the group has used project funding to commission the development of an inward investment website for Wellington.

The website was launched on 23 February 2006 at a business event to celebrate the successful outcomes of the Market Towns Employment Project in Wellington.  Wellington Town Council has taken ownership of the website and will be responsible for its updating.
